We live in an electronic world. At work, home, and everywhere we go electronics (computers, monitors, televisions) are involved in almost everything we do. Household electronics, commonly called Electronic Waste

(E-Waste), is a fast growing segment of our waste – and many of these items can be a health hazard and can affect the environment if not disposed of properly.

Older electronics, especially televisions and computers can contain heavy metals like lead, mercury, nickel, and chromium. If improperly disposed of, these hazardous materials can be released into the environment, posing a threat to human health.

Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle

Many electronics can be recycled for repair and reuse or for disassembly, where material components like metals and plastics can be harvested and used in manufacturing. This reduces the demand for raw materials and limited natural resources.

Computer Files & Security

The White River District enlists the resources of certified electronic waste recyclers and de-manufacturers with respected certifications (R2 Responsible Recycling) and that meet U.S. Department of Defense standards for information security and data wipe procedures. In the recycling process, computer hard drives are stripped of memory and operating systems are reloaded, erasing any remaining files.

Note: Some locations may require a small fee to help offset shipping and handling costs associated with taking electronic waste.
